At the top – Burj Khalifa Experience

Since its opening in January 2010, Burj Khalifa has caught the attention of many not just in the Middle East but the whole world. An ultra-modern mega-structure the surpass the limit and ingenuity of modern architectural and structural engineering marvel, this landmark carve a niche as the world’s tallest building and world’s free standing structure bringing glory to Dubai and the entire Emirates.

To feed our curiosity and experience a-once-in-a lifetime chance of reaching the top observatory of Burj Khalifa, we decided to book our tickets online because it is cheaper compared to immediate entry admission. It was really an unforgettable moment because our preferred schedule was already sold out with only two adult slots remaining. My friend Catherine called up the customer care to make a way for us (ten adults, two children). Gladly, they responded to our request then we finally had our tickets and the excitement within us started to intensify. The cost for adult (13+ years) is 100AED, while for children is 75AED.

We came to Dubai mall at around 9:30PM on November 5, 2011. After taking our dinner at the food court, we descended to the reception area on the lower ground level of the mall. At about 10:30PM the long queue of avid guests filled up the entrance. We started our journey through a 65-meter long travelator that transported us through the exotic and rich history of Dubai to the present.

At the waiting area we were entertained and informed by a multi-media presentation flashed in huge panels about the history of Dubai and the fascinating story of Burj Khalifa. It is where I got a unique first close-up of the building as I video the whole story.

We ascended to the high point of the Khalifa view from At The Top, Burj Khalifa’s observation deck, located on level 124 using a high-speed elevator. The service elevator can travel at 10 meters per second with a capacity of 12-14 people per cab. Likewise, it is also known as the world’s fastest and longest travel distance from the lowest to highest stop. Inside, the floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide an imaginary breathtaking view of the sparkling lights and stars all with surround sounds and music.

From the vantage point of the observatory deck, we walked around the entire perimeter to see different comprehensive views beyond and below from such a towering height. We stayed for 1 hour and were fascinated with the gleaming and colorful lights of downtown Dubai.

As we return back to the base of Burj Khalifa, we passed by historical memorabilia including the people behind the planning and construction of this gigantic structure. Here, I earn a deeper understanding of Dubai’s remarkable vision. Then just outside the customer care section, I bought our family photo with leather frame that costs 200AED. It will be a souvenir of our visit.
