Discovering Science @ Oman Children's Museum

June 2, 2011 – Our second stop is the Oman Children’s Museum housed in a white-dome shaped building at Shatti al Qurum near the Qurum Natural Park, Way no 2601.


The museum was the first science museum in Oman that features the scientific ways of human life and the exhibition section is divided into three parts; The Human life, Physics and observation which investigates the progression of science through the ages. The museum has 45 exhibits and two demonstrations. Children of all ages as well as adults can enjoy scientific experiments through hands on experience. These include experiences of a fake electric shock, trigger a lightning bolt, launching a hot air balloon, photographing your own shadow, and sending message through a whisper dish. There is also a display named "Eye Spy", which is series of perception panels with illusions designed to offer some insight into how your eyes and brain see things differently.

All in all, people visiting here will grasp innovative ideas to explore science. The museum has recently opened a new computer workshop for its visitors to learn technology in an interactive way.

Operated by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, the museum is open from Saturday-Thursday from 9:30AM to 1:30PM. There is a fee for who wish to visit -> 500 bzs (adults) 100 bzs (children under 12 years).

Andrei loves science so much especially on astronomy..so he tried to trace the stars.

PERSISTENCE OF VISION - this is a devise where you can see the separate still pictures one at a time in a rapid succession. They then appear as a continuous moving pictures.

A human balancing beam..try to balance your body within 60 seconds.

This is homunculus a representation of how our brain view our body. Tongue, face, fingers appear so huge because a bigger part of your brain is devoted to their function and there are huge number of sense receptors, muscles, and nerves.

A chemistry devive that after 60 seconds produce a loud "BANG" sound as a result of chemical reaction.
