Andrei is a model-wanna-be for GapKids Collection

Jesse has an intense passion for photography. He started his relationship with photography when he got his first DSLR camera in 2007 (that camera still works until today). During his spare time, he browsed and read materials from the internet on enhancing skills in digital photography and artistry. After sometime, his plan was made into fruition – having his very own family as subjects and models in his own photography concepts. Much more, he created a do-it-yourself and frugal kind of photo studio at home.




The first attempt of Jesse's studio pictorial was done prior to our son’s 7th Birthday. Andrei was actually the first model but unluckily his pictures were the last being post-processed, enhanced, and posted in the internet. It is because, at that time, we just intend to get a shot for his birthday invitation card.

We got help from our friends, Gabby and Elena, during the photoshoot. Gabby allowed us to borrow his tripod, camera flash, and newly bought DLSR cam while Elena was our energy booster on keeping a positive cheer despite of Andrei’s repulsive attitude.

Andrei made his own stance and gesture before the camera. There were four different kinds of costume he wore and were all his favorites like cartoon character, superhero and fashion trend icon. It seemed to me that each of these has a great influence on his image and preferences because even in our normal conversation he would love to talk about them.

And so here I was, as curious as I am, browsing the internet to get a good explanation behind my son’s affections for these so-called ICONS.

BEN10: Alien Force

Ben Tennyson becomes a superhero named BEN10 after he acquires a watch-like alien device called the Omnitrix (later the Ultimatrix) attached to his wrist that allows him to turn into alien creatures. Andrei wants to have powers like Ben10. Thus, he loves this character so much that, until a new series came out which set five years later and Ben is now 15 years old, wanted to have his role on his 7th Birthday last June 23, 2011. We then bought him the whole costume including the Ultimatrix and famously called himself - Andrei the BEN10.

Indiana Jones

Well, as the famous title implies, who can’t hardly recognized that name anyway? Colonel Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones, Jr., Ph.D is an archeology professor who is also a famous adventurer, treasure hunter, and pulp action hero in the 1930s. He went for four wild adventures (series movies) of his life that undeniably remains one of cinema's most revered movie characters. Andrei was more into exploration and action that he keeps on watching these movies over a multitude of times. By his 6th birthday, he requested to be like Indiana Jones on his party.

Doctor Who

Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme that depicts the adventures of an eccentric alien traveller of great intelligence who battled injustice, save civilisations and help people while exploring time and space in time machine called "TARDIS", (an acronym for Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space), whose exterior appears as a blue police box. The Doctor has the ability to regenerate his body when near death. No wonder it is listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television show in the world since 1963 and as the "most successful" science fiction series of all time. Perhaps, Andrei is fascinated with Science and Time travel. Therefore he wants to be like the Doctor too.

GapKids

GapKids is an internationally acclaimed brand under Gap, Inc that offers clothes, accessories, and personal care products for children. The original Gap was founded in 1969 by Doris and Don Fisher when they started as a small single store in San Francisco of having an intention to establish an easy place to shop that has a lot of variety in styles and sizes. They initially sold jeans and vinyl records then venture to other form of textiles and products later on. GapKids was opened in 1986 when Gap started coming to European countries and slowly spreading throughout the world. Andrei like his dad loves the design, color, as well as clothing materials of this brand. Every time we visited Muscat City Centre, we normally take a peek on the new collections found in the Gap store and buy a bunch once they are on sale.
